laces/wires. my phone snapped this beauty on the corner of my street.
when I was a kid, an episode of 60 minutes said shoes on a wire means someone died there. upon further research I’ve learned people have a lot of other ideas, the most popular of which: a drug/crack dealer is nearby. ugh.
other suggestions are: someone lost their virginity there, in italian neighborhoods–which mine is– someone (or lots of someones) wanted to leave their mark on the block, or, the ever popular, kids were just being dumb.
I think, judging from my own experience in nyc developing the stinkiest feet I’ve ever had in my life, these puppies just needed a break from pounding the pavement…

Paper trail on Metropolitan Ave. Every now and then I come across random stuff on the street. When I lived in S. Williamsburg, I came across thousands of rubberbands–tiny red ones–that covered the sidewalk for 4 or 5 blocks. As the days went by, I saw them spread further apart and blend in with the other street trash until the were no longer a show-stopping pattern. Saturday night, while walking back from a show/birthday party/CD release party I came across thousands of napkins. I have no idea why they were covering the walkway or how thousands of napkins would be ever decide to jump ship, but there they were. Unavoidably and inexplicably part of the terrain and conversation on the way home.

Happy Friday. To get into the spirit of the weekend, I took Cheddar to the dog park for a while, then walked up into Greenpoint and around McGolrick park. We strolled along enjoying dope rhymes floating in the cool breeze. The aforementioned dope rhymes included (amongst other things) “mad metaphors,” “a dead baby” and “f*ucking your wife” to the tune of smashed 40. Look for it on iTunes this summer.
Awww…spring.

Something tells me that a bouncy, air castle does not give children an accurate perception of what mommy and daddy do all day, but then, I’ve been wrong before. Welcome to ‘take your sons and daughters to work day’ in the office. Not pictured: Disney music, face painting, clowns, popcorn and cotton candy.
